PRESS RELEASE: 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

Mayor Cervoni announced that a 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony marking the
25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, in front of the Wallingford Town Hall. All citizens are invited to attend the Remembrance Ceremony and gather in honor of all those affected by the events of that day.

The program will include the posting of the Colors, student speakers from Lyman Hall High School and Mark T. Sheehan High School, along with other heartfelt tributes.

This meaningful event is proudly sponsored by the Wallingford Fire Department, Wallingford Police Department and Public Celebrations Committee.

PROCLAMATION: Liberty Tree Day

In 1646, an elm tree planted in Boston became known as the Liberty Tree, serving as a gathering place for colonists resisting British rule. Beginning with the 1765 Stamp Act protests, it became a powerful symbol of American independence and a center for organizing demonstrations. Though British forces cut it down in 1775, its legacy continued through Liberty Trees established throughout the colonies, representing freedom, unity, courage, and the fight for natural rights.

Mayor Cervoni proclaimed August 14, 2026 Liberty Tree Day in our community. We encourage all residents to recognize the significance and role of the "Liberty Tree" in the formation of our country's independence and to rededicate themselves to the principles of freedom under which our country has grown and prospered.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Route 15 Lane Closure / Detour Information

Beginning at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, lane realignments will begin on Route 15. During this period, motorists should anticipate fluctuating lane closures on both northbound and southbound Route 15 to allow for the shifting of lane markings. This work will continue into the pre-dawn hours of Monday, August 24, 2026.

PRESS RELEASE: Town of Wallingford Names Sebastian Velez Environmental and Natural Resources Planner

The Town of Wallingford is pleased to announce the appointment of Sebastian Velez as the Town’s new Environmental and Natural Resources Planner. Velez comes to Wallingford with experience in municipal land use, zoning enforcement, wetlands regulation, geographic information systems (GIS) and working with residents, commissions and developers on land use matters. As Environmental and Natural Resources Planner, Velez will support the Town’s work involving environmental planning, natural resources, land use and related municipal initiatives.

“We are pleased to welcome Sebastian to the Town of Wallingford,” Mayor Vincent Cervoni said. “His experience with municipal land use, wetlands and zoning will be an asset as we continue our obligations to manage Wallingford’s natural resources and plan for the community’s future.”

TAX PAYMENT NOTICE: First-Half Installment of Real Estate & Personal Property Taxes on the Grand List of October 1, 2025

The first half installment of Real Estate and Personal Property taxes on the Grand List of October 1, 2025 is due July 1, 2026 and is payable on August 3, 2026.

No separate mailing will be sent for the second installment.

Residents can view and pay their tax bills online at wallingfordct.gov/invoicecloud. If you plan to pay in person but haven't received your bill, you can print a copy from the website before visiting Town Hall. Please note that a fifty-cent fee will apply if a copy must be printed for you in the office.

Volunteer for the Mayors for Monarchs Initiative

Mayor Cervoni has committed our community's support to the Mayors for Monarchs Pledge, a national effort to create and protect habitats for monarch butterflies and other important pollinators.

A space on the south side of the Carriage House, facing Prince Street, has been designated as a pollinator garden. Anyone interested in volunteering to help with light gardening and maintenance is welcome
to participate.

SENIOR PERMITS

4/1/2026

Wallingford seniors (65 years and older) and residents under 65 years of age who have been issued a Medicare card may purchase a $5 permit and receive a coupon book.

TO GET A PERMIT AND COUPON BOOK: Coupon Books can be purchased for the entire season at the Resident Disposal Center. The price of the $5 permit will not be prorated or refunded. Additionally, Coupon Books can be purchased at the Senior Center during the month of April. To apply for this program, an eligible resident should bring:

- CT Driver’s License or CT Identification Card (available at DMV) with a Wallingford address
- a valid Medicare card (if applicable)
- AND vehicle registration* showing a Wallingford address for the vehicle that will be used to deliver trash to the disposal site. *A permit will not be issued for a commercial vehicle.

CONNECTICUT DOT PRESS RELEASE

11/24/2025

The Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (CTDOT) Office of Engineering is developing plans to remove and install pavement markings and signs in advance of and at highway-railroad grade crossings in twenty-three Connecticut towns, including Wallingford.

The project includes extending edge lines, lane lines and center lines across grade crossings to reduce the potential for vehicles turning into the railroad tracks. It also involves replacement of faded and/or damaged advance railroad crossing signs and markings, and selective trimming to improve visibility of grade crossings.

The design is currently scheduled to be complete in September 2026, with construction anticipated to start in the spring of 2027, assuming acceptance of the project and availability of funding. This project will be undertaken with 100% federal funds.
