The mission of the Office of the Fire Marshal is to reduce and prevent fires, explosions, hazardous material releases, and other preventable hazards through community risk reduction including Education, Enforcement, Engineering, Economic Incentives and Emergency Response. 

In order to fulfill this mission, the Office of the Fire Marshal:

1.Provides public fire and life safety education programs with the Town of Wallingford.
EDUCATION

2. Investigates the origin and cause of fires and explosions, inspects buildings and hazardous materials, and enforces open burning as governed by the Connecticut General Statutes and Code of the Town of Wallingford.
ENFORCEMENT

3. Conducts site, building, and fire protection systems plan reviews to determine compliance with the Connecticut General Statutes and Code of the Town of Wallingford. 
ENGINEERING

4. Offers a Smoke Alarm Program through a cooperative partnership with the American Red Cross for Wallingford residents.
ECONOMIC INCENTIVE

5. Receives and reviews LEPC Tier II Reports and Hazardous Materials Surveys for emergency response preparedness.
